Equal Sweetener
|
| Equal sweetener was discovered in 1965. Equal sweetener is 180 to 200 times sweeter than sugar and has virtually zero calories. Dr. James Schlatter, a French scientist employed by Searle, accidently discovered the sweetening ingredient that would revolutionize the sweetener industry. Searle named the new discovery "NutraSweet®." In 1979, after 14 years of testing NutraSweet was approved for consumer use in France in tablet form under the product name "Canderel®." At first, consumer use was restricted to the pharmaceutical channel. In 1981 the tabletop use of NutraSweet was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration. The following year Equal sweetener was launched in the US in individual packets. Equal sweetener is a great-tasting alternative to sugar. Each serving of Equal sweetener has zero calories and less than one gram of carbohydrate. Equal sweetener is type 1 or type 2 diabetic friendly. Equal helps you budget your total carbohydrate intake and satisfies cravings for sweets. With fewer calories and carbohydrates than sugar, Equal sweetener can also help with weight management. All forms of Equal sweetener have been certified as kosher by the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations. Equal packets and Equal Spoonful are parve. Equal tablets are dairy. Equal products are not kosher for Passover. |
